Adam Denton

MOst, BAppSc(HB), BPhEd

Registered Osteopath, Exercise Specialist & ACC Accredited Provider

In addition to his Masters of Osteopathy (MOst), Adam has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Biology (BAppSc[HB]) and a Bachelor of Physical Education (BPhEd), majoring in Exercise Prescription and Management.

Adam is an experienced healthcare provider with an extensive skill set that branches beyond osteopathy. Adam started his healthcare career in the health and fitness field as a specialist in exercise performance and rehabilitation, working with a range of recreational and competitive athletes. He believes his experience in exercise and rehabilitation complements his role as an osteopath.

Adam’s pathway into healthcare was influenced by his family which includes doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, but he was drawn towards osteopathy by its holistic views, seeing the advantages of addressing the whole body and a person’s life circumstances instead of just looking at an area of pain in isolation. Adam likes to identify lifestyle factors and other areas of the body that could be influencing a particular complaint, before guiding the patient on their treatment pathway to better health. Adam’s approach to osteopathic healthcare includes patient education. He believes that if a patient understands their problem and how it has eventuated then they are better equipped to implement effective changes. Adam consistently collaborates with other exercise specialists and healthcare professionals in order to provide his patients with the best overall care.

Adam has a clinical interest in myofascial release, the topic for his master’s thesis. Myofascial release can be employed by the clinician as a form of treatment during an appointment and prescribed for self-care. Myofascial release involves both hands-on touch and the use of tools like foam rollers or balls to positively influence connective tissues such as muscles and the surrounding fascia as well as nerves and blood vessels.

Adam is passionate about his osteopathic work with children and adolescents. Adam has a particular interest in paediatrics (specialised osteopathy for children & adolescents) with a focus on infants struggling with birth traumas, feeding issues or digestive health struggles such as reflux. A large aspect of working with children and adolescents is improving function across the development stages, as well as the management of sporting injuries where he draws on his experience in the health and fitness field.

Adam has a personal interest in treating patients with headaches and migraines after his own experiences with migraines were resolved with osteopathy and collaborative healthcare with his doctor.

Before qualifying as an osteopath, Adam spent many years working and travelling in the Middle East and Asia with his partner. This experience expanded his understanding of health and human diversity.  Adam’s time travelling, living and working in China has been particularly valuable to his osteopathic practice, as many Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts are imbedded in osteopathy.

Outside of work, Adam spends time with his partner and young children in New Zealand’s great outdoors. Adam enjoys recreational activities that provide ‘experiences with a view’ such as snowboarding, climbing, running, tramping and travelling.
